Jacksonville is once again preparing to remember its darkest day.
More than 240 local marines were killed in the 1983 Beirut bombing.
Final setup work is being done at the Beirut Memorial Wall at Camp Johnson, where hundreds will gather Saturday morning. Vets say they are impressed Jacksonville still honors the sacrifice of those who did not make it back.
The city will also honor resident Doris Downs, one of the memorial's organizers who passed away earlier this year, by unveiling a bench at the memorial site in her honor. Ceremonies start at 10:30 Saturday morning at the memorial on Highway 24, Lejeune Boulevard.
