Massive Job Loss in Kinston

Greensboro based nylon company Unifi Incorporated says it's eliminating nearly 500 jobs at its Kinston plant by the end of March.

Unifi company officials say the move will slash its staff from over 700 employees down to just 250 at the former Dupont plant. The cuts come as the company shuts down two major product lines in an effort to make the company profitable.

Larry Neel of the Employment Security Commission in Lenoir County says the layoffs will be tough on the county's economy. At one point, the former Dupont plant had over 3,000 employees.
