Attacking Pit Bull Killed by Police

Jacksonville Police Officers had to use deadly force to stop an attacking pit bull Monday afternoon.

The incident happened in the Cardinal Village neighborhood. A woman putting up Christmas lights was bitten by the dog, which also chased neighbors and children and then turned on police officers who arrived to help.

One officer shot the dog with a 12-gauge shotgun three times before it died. Police say city and county ordinances allow officers to use deadly force to put down threatening or injured animals.
