Vaccine Shortage Affects the Military

Local military troops are used to standing in line for shots, but many won't be standing in line for the flu vaccine. The same shortage of adult flu vaccines has hit bases in the Tarheel state, including Camp Lejeune and Fort Bragg.

Flu vaccines are normally given to units deploying into areas where the flu may be expected. But for many others, there won't be a shot this year. And, they can't even go to the local health department to get a shot outside the base gates.

Onslow County's health director says they gave more than 700 doses, all they had, to high-risk residents last Friday. Base officials say children of military members can still get the flu vaccines this year.
