New Traffic Safety Team Hits the Road

More cops have hit the streets in the city of Washington. They're called the traffic safety team.

In April, the Washington Police department received a $200,000.00 grant from the North Carolina Governor's Highway Safety Program to hire four new police officers and buy four new patrol cars. Monday, officers were given keys to those new cars now ready for the road.

The Traffic Safety team is responsible for enforcing the rules of the road and much more, like holding child safety seat clinics, speaking to civic organizations about traffic safety, and explaining new road laws.

The grant received for this program will last the department three years. After that the department will have to decide whether to apply for another grant or ask the city to pick up the tab.
