It's a chance for artists, decoy carvers, model boatmakers, and many others to show off not only their work, but their appreciation for coastal North Carolina.

The annual Core Sound Waterfowl Weekend will be held at the Core Sound Waterfowl Museum on Harkers Island in Carteret County this weekend. You'll also be able to sample some down east cooking and experience many other aspects of coastal life that museum officials say has nearly become forgotten.

"Anyone who loves eastern North Carolina would love this museum," said Pat Ausband. "It's about quilting, it's about crab potting, it's about commercial fishing, sport fishing, it's about boat building, and just everything that has been part of the heritage of this part of the area for so long."

The event begins on Friday, December 3 at noon and runs through 5 p.m. Sunday. For more information, call 252-728-1500 or log on to www.coresound.com.
