County Gives Up Airport Zoning Idea

Onslow County has abandoned plans to establish new zoning restrictions around Albert Ellis Airport.

The county was considering setting up an airport fight path district that would have restricted land use near the airport.

The decision to withdraw the proposal came after the County Planning Board's vote against recommending the idea to county commissioners.

Many landowners in the Catherine Lake area of Onslow County opposed the idea, saying it would infringe on their property rights.

The county will now look at alternatives.
