Five Confirmed Cases Of Shigellosis

The Onslow County Health Department has confirmed five cases of shigellosis, with another 30 people showing symptoms. The cases have mostly been found in pre-school and elementary school children.

Shigellosis is a highly contagious bacterial infection of the intestinal tract. Symptoms include abdominal pain, cramps, diarrhea, fever, and vomiting. Health officials urge the public to remind children of the importance of hand washing before lunch and after bathroom breaks.
