Keeping Those Big, Bright, Beautiful Smiles!

Some students at Carver Elementary School in Wayne County are now sporting bigger and brighter smiles. It's all thanks to a statewide program designed to bring dental care to area schools.

Each year students are chosen to participate in a dental sealant program based on dental need. The goal is to prevent dental disease in children through preventative care. Lynne Fulghum, a hygienist with the program, says the sealant used on the children's teeth, is a thin plastic coating that's put in the pits and fissures of the tooth, where bacteria lives.

Organizers say another benefit to this program is students don't have to miss school to visit the dentist's office.
