Accident Closes Section of 264

Two separate accidents close together on Highway 264 West in Pitt County closed down a portion of the highway Monday afternoon and sent one person to the hospital.

The Highway Patrol says just after 2:00 Monday afternoon, two cargo trucks traveling on 264 towards Farmville ran off the highway and flipped over, pinning one of the drivers. Witnesses say heavy rain caused both trucks to hydroplane.

Traffic had to be rerouted while rescue officials cleaned up the accidents. No word yet as to the extent of the injuries to the driver who was airlifted to the hospital. The second driver walked away from the accident.
