Two people from Elizabeth City are facing multiple insurance and automobile title fraud charges after an investigation by Pasquotank County deputies and the state Department of Insurance.
Andrea Hernandez was charged with 12 counts of insurance fraud and automobile title fraud, while Octavio Segura faces nine counts of insurance fraud and eight counts of title fraud. Both are being held in the Albemarle District Jail under hefty bonds.
Investigators say the two had more than 150 vehicles registered at three different addresses in Elizabeth City. State Insurance Commissioner Jim Long says they believe the the pair was helping others obtain registrations and insurance in North Carolina, even though they lived in another state.
Authorities say while Hernandez and Segura have numerous out of state addresses, it's believed they actually live in Salisbury, Maryland.
