Continuing to Rebuild Lives a Year Later

The one year anniversary of Hurricane Isabel has come and gone and still recovery efforts are underway in Hyde County and the Outer Banks. An estimated 170 families have yet to return home from either Hurricane Isabel or Alex. But relief efforts from a Christian ministry are putting people back one family at a time.

The Marion Edwards Recovery Center Initiatives, or MERCI as it’s called, currently has new homes under construction, and at least 21 more planned. Volunteers from as far away as Canada and California have come to the Outer Banks to rebuild the lives of Eastern Carolinians. Plus, community donations have given the relief effort a big boost with new tools.
