On Stand-By to Help People in Western Carolina

Eastern Carolina helped the Western part of our state when the mountains were flooded by Hurricane Frances, and now it looks like the area may need our help again.

When Frances hit Western Carolina, Pitt County was one of the first counties to send help in the form of search and rescue water teams. The county has already sent the team back in anticipation for what Hurricane Ivan could do to the already soggy area.

Pitt County Sheriff Mac Manning says it’s a tough job, but these men know they have work to do. Law enforcement officials say Governor Mike Easley has requested that 14 other counties be on stand-by depending on what Ivan does.
