Man Charged With Trafficking Opium

A man deputies say is no stranger to the Carteret County jail is there again, on multiple drug charges.

Walt Gillikin of Otway was arrested last night and charged with seven counts of trafficking opium.

Deputies say the 64 year old man is suspected of diverting thousands of prescription methadone pills over the last several years. Authorities say Gillikin has a previous history of drug offenses and has served prison time.

Gillikin's bond was set a $1,000,000.

    This doesn't make sense at all.... people who murder others get less of a bail. I really wish that you would have given more details about this crime, because without the picture, it made no sense at all charging a man a million dollars for bail. Thanks for your time!!
