The Social Security Administration is delivering checks a day early to hundreds of thousands of East Coast residents to make sure the money beats Hurricane Earl's arrival.

Social Security Commissioner Michael Astrue said Wednesday that benefit checks will be delivered Thursday to about 737,000 beneficiaries in 10 states from the Carolinas to Massachusetts and Washington, D.C.

I think this is a great thing! So many people are out of money by the time they get the checks. You never know if the bank will have to close. However, WITN please make people aware that this only applies to the paper checks! If people have direct deposit, then the money will be in the account on Friday as normal!! To "Teller" the fed has given the bank the go ahead to cash today even though the checks are dated for the 3rd. My bank will honor them!!

Yes the ones that get their checks by mail are getting them today, however the banks are not able to cash them until they are working in the 3rd banking day. The ones that have direct deposit aren't getting their money early because of the storms. Another Gov. mess up
