Mistrial in Dock Watson Case

The trial of Dock Watson has ended without a unanimous decision by the jury.

Tuesday afternoon, jurors informed the judge that the jury was in a hopeless deadlock, with 10 jurors voting for conviction and two against. That means the trial has ended in a mistrial.

Earlier in the day, jurors asked to review specific evidence to hopefully clear up some disagreement, but several jurors said that could not be done. One of the jurors even said the two jurors voting against a conviction could not find Watson guilty of the crime under any circumstances.

Watson was on trial on rape and larceny charges stemming from an incident at Chocowinity Middle School last summer. A new trial will now have to be set. Watson faces a separate trial on rape charges stemming from an incident at a downtown Washington store.
