Custody Battle Erupts Over Leg Found In Barbecue Smoker

A man who stored his severed leg in a barbecue smoker that was later auction off is locked in a custody dispute with the man who found it.

Shannon Whisnant, of Maiden, NC, found John Wood's severed leg in a used smoker he bought last week at an auction. Wood's leg was cut off near the knee after an airplane crash in 2004. He had been storing it in the smoker at a storage center.

Whisnant says he might be able to charge people to look at
the leg.

I just saw this case on people's court. The judge gave the plaintiff $5000 to be paid by the legless man. Isn't it illegal to sell body parts? It was an accident that turned into a sick way to make money. If I were the victim, I would sue the auctioneers and everyone else, for negligence, pain and suffering. The leg was his. Give the sick, greedy plaintiff rights to the photo of the leg in the smoker.

Ok, give the guy his leg...but I have two better questions: Why would you store your amputated leg in a smoker? and two...if you bought a smoker and found a leg wouldn't you want your money back?

People are always looking for a way to make an easy dollar. Who would pay to see an amputated leg? You can see pictures like that online. Why are so many people eager to go to court and spend taxpayer dollars just to make a dollar? Go to work like the rest of us. This is ridiculous.
