A Day of Dove Hunting Ends With Teenager Being Shot

A day of dove hunting ends with an Onslow County teenager shot by his younger brother.

Onslow County Sheriff Ed Brown says the incident happened Saturday afternoon, near the Hubert community as a father and two sons were dove hunting in a corn field. The sheriff says a 17-year-old boy stood up to fire at a bird, but stepped into the line of fire of his 13-year-old brother and was hit in the head by pellets from the 12 gauge shotgun.

The teen, whose name was not released by the sheriff, was flown by Eastcare to Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville in critical condition Saturday. The incident is still under investigation, but Sheriff Brown says it’s believed to be accidental.
