As many students moved in, school officials say they are also preparing, and that includes making sure the ECU Emergency Alert Notification System is ready to go.

Friday ECU officials tested the alert notification system. They say there are many buildings across campus that have the speakers, so in case of an emergency students can be notified.

The speakers aren't the only way officials can contact students if need be, they also have set up cell phone text messaging, digital signs, twitter messaging, and pop-up instant messaging on computers that have ecu alert software. ECU spokesman John Durham says the goal is to make the university as safe as possible.

There will be another test of the system on Saturday.

Too Bad Tom had to do the announcement. Hate listening to his voice.

Stan, this is the best time to test the system. I know there is a lot going on this weekend but at least they can see the alert system work and know what to expect if something were to happen. I just hope it is never needed.

I can appreciate the good intentions of the test but it would seem to me there is enough anxiety and excitment around ECU without the test this weekend, as it is move in weekend for the students and their parents?
