In the event of a hurricane hitting the area folks in Lenoir County who must evacuate can now take their pets along with them.
People who own cats and dogs can seek refuge together at Lenoir Community College. The college is teaming up with two county agencies to provide separate shelters for people and their pets.
Right now there is a big push to find at least 10 volunteers to help run the animal side of the shelter.
