Will Ferrell Joins The Office

It's the beginning of the end for Steve Carell's run on "The Office".

The actor's leaving the series later this month, and the show's bringing in a major guest star as his potential replacement.

The gang at Dunder Mifflin is already dealing with the shock of Michael Scott's impending departure.

Now, there's another one.

"Everyone's telling me his name is Will Ferrell. I actually thought his name was Ron Burgundy," said co-star, Ed Helms.

That's the role Ferrell played alongside Steve Carell in "Anchorman", and Carell's exit from "The Office" opened the door for a reunion.

"I said to my agent, I'd love to just go on the show once, and then the writers asked, could you do like 3 or 4 episodes, and I was like, sure!" said Ferrell.

Ferrell says his character, DeAngelo Vickers, is cut from the same cloth as Michael Scott.

"It's basically one idiot training another," Ferrell explained.

And pairing up two idiots has made for lots of fun on the set.

"The energy that's on set watching them is magical, as cliché as that sounds, it's totally true," said co-star John Krasinski.

Ferrell admits he was a little intimidated about joining the show.

"It's a little bit out of body, I'm looking at the cast of The Office as they look back to me," he said.

Ferrell will also be part of Steve Carell's final episode of "The Office", which has been 'super-sized' to 50 minutes.

It will air on April 28th.

But "The Office" will go on after Carell's departure.

The hour-long season finale is slated for May 19th, and in addition to Ferrell, Ray Romano, James Spader and Ricky Gervais of the original British version of "The Office" are also on board as guest stars.
