Britain's Prince George is celebrating his first birthday on Tuesday.

It has been an eventful year for the first child of Prince William and Catherine, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

This time last year, journalists from around the world were camped outside Saint Mary's Hospital in London waiting for the prince's birth.

Prince George is third in line to the British throne.

Some consider the global media frenzy surrounding him as a reflection of the international popularity of his parents.

At three-months old, Prince George was christened in a private, low-key service at Chapel Royal inside Saint James' Place in London.

The venue broke with royal tradition, as high-ranking royal christenings usually take place in the music room at Buckingham Palace.

The Chapel Royal was where the body of Princess Diana, Prince William's mother, lay before her funeral.

At eight-months-old, Prince George took his first overseas trip led to New Zealand and Australia with his parents.

The Royals are reportedly hosting a small birthday party for their son at the palace.
