The annual Pirate Invasion kicks off in seaside Beaufort on Friday, with the promise of an up close and personal encounter with the legendary Blackbeard himself.
The North Carolina Maritime Museum is hosting the Friday and Saturday events that are family friendly while the town will allow open containers of grog along the boardwalk for Saturday night festivities.
Coordinators said many of the activities are free of charge, and include a scavenger hunt for pirates, tattoos and an opportunity to meet Blackbeard.
The 17th century flashback will provide sword fighting demos, a mock trial, and cannon fire.
Starting at 10 a.m. Saturday, the museum will have crafts on hand inside their library. Children can make their own pirate hat, get a pirate tattoo, sash, and make their own treasure map. Those events run from 10 - 11:30 a.m., and then again from 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.
At 11:30 on Saturday, the museum will host the 5th annual Lunch With Pirates event. The event is already sold out according to the museum's website. Ticket holders will enjoy lunch from Fat Fellas BBQ & Grill while the East Coast Pirate Crew give a fashion show highlighting the latest wears of seafarers.
