NEW YORK (AP) -- The Golden Globe nominations for television largely hail cable programming again this year.

The broadcast networks were snubbed entirely in categories such as best actor in a drama series and best actress in a TV film. HBO led among all outlets with 17 nominations, far ahead of runner-up Showtime, which had seven. Among the broadcast networks, ABC had five while CBS, NBC and PBS had four each and Fox just two.

HBO's "Game Change" about the 2008 presidential race between Barack Obama and John McCain, picked up five nominations, including best TV film and best actress for Julianne Moore, who wowed viewers as GOP vice presidential hopeful Sarah Palin.

Right behind was Showtime's spy drama "Homeland," with four nominations: for best series, best actress, actor and supporting actor.

PBS's "Downton Abbey" claimed three nominations, as did HBO's film "The Girl" and ABC's hit comedy "Modern Family."

Other broadcast programs getting multiple nods were a pair of new shows: ABC's "Nashville" and NBC's freshman series "Smash." Both received two acting nominations, as did CBS' "The Good Wife."
