Hollywood Coming Back To NC, Could Mean Millions For Economy

Hollywood is coming back to North Carolina, and state leaders say that could mean millions of dollars for the local economy.

Gov. Beverly Perdue said Monday that the film "Journey 2: The Mysterious Island" is slated to begin production in Wilmington this month.

The film stars Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Michael Caine and is being produced by New Line Cinema, a subsidiary of Warner Bros.

Production is expected to last five months, which Perdue says will mean hundreds of jobs and millions of dollars.

Earlier this year, Perdue signed a bill expanding tax breaks for film companies to help bring more productions to the state.

The state Revenue Department says movie and TV projects spent $148 million in 2008 in North Carolina, and $55 million in 2009.

Ok Big Red did you know that NC is in debt up to it's eyeballs???? Any money would be great and if you were a true North Carolinian you would know that NC has the Biggest Film studio on The East Coast and the third biggest in the U.S. so this is not new to us. Google how many films have been made in this state and see what pops up and we are not californicating the state

"The Rock" is a movie star. Sir Michael Caine is an actor. There is a difference. It is called talent. Movie stars are a dime a dozen. Actors are pure class.

I would love to meet the rock. I am only an hour from Wilmington. I used to watch him wrestle and I love his witty ways and he was fun to watch. He has some awesome movies out also. Hes just an all around fun loving guy.

Years ago up in Washington state, the cry was: "Don't Californicate Washington" due to all of the Golden Staters moving north. Maybe a similar cry can be made for North Carolina to keep the Hollywood lefties out. Money or no money.

Its smoke an mirrors people as the election nears. The Hollywood jobs are non-existent. Perhaps some coffee and lunch diners will see and increase in business but Hollywood will bring its own people to fill positions as they have for many years and guess where their income tax goes, California! We will get to clean up their crap so sanitation may add an employee or two.

We get the sweet as well as the sour. NC has the third largest film making industry behind only NY and CA. The jobs and influx of money is good but I question the amount of money.... by whose accounting? We have the facilities and the people, but do we need to give millions of dollars in tax incentives to bring them here? When Lindsay Lohan gets out of rehab she can come to NC and get a million dollars.

Arthur Williams is a poser that is too scared to put "Democrat" on ANY of his campaign material. He uses the term "DownEast Conservative"...aka Tax & Spend Liberal. This "jobs creation" smoke & mirrors ploy is a bunch of hooey! The majority of the jobs for these productions will be for UNION workers shipped in from other states and companies. I would prefer representatives that have REAL plans and not just "glitz & glamour" tax cuts for their liberal cronies. Sorry if I blew your cover Arthur Williams, somebody has to tell these misguided folks the truth, I know that is a foreign concept for Democrats.
