Fresh Look For WITN's Website And Commenting Change

Friday was a big day for

We’ve been working for months on several changes for the website. Our goal is to make the experience the best it can be for you.

Friday evening, we implemented the changes and adjustments. We hope you’ll be patient with us as we work to make the transition as smooth as possible. While the majority of the work is complete, it will be a work in progress for the next few days.

The website is now HTML5.

HTML5 is compatible with most browsers, making the website easier to use. HTML5 is also designed to provide a better and faster delivery of the website and its components for you. It is more compatible with mobile devices and smart phones.

WITN also made the transition to a different commenting procedure.

Comments will now be submitted using Facebook, Yahoo ID, AOL and Hotmail.

As of Friday night, the Facebook commenting was working great. We are still working out how to comment with Yahoo, AOL and Hotmail and will update you when we have new information.

If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to e-mail us at

Thanks again for your patience!

WITN you need to check out channel 12 news and look at the comments on their news. There are hardly any comments. You need to think over what you are about to change. You will end up the same way,no comments and no one reading the news. Is that what you want.

I don't have Facebook, Yahoo ID, AOL, or Hotmail. I'll just remove from my computer. Thank you for your service to our community before you made this ANONYMOUS decision!!!!!!

I had a Facebook account, and found it to be utterly useless (for me). I don't come here for the news (that would be useless too), but I do get a kick out of some of the goofball comments. Those will probably fade off into the sunset, just like "common sense" did many years ago. With that in mind, I guess it is time for 'ole "Anonymous too" to move on. I only wish I could get my preferred weather provider to choose a different news-feed. Hmmm.... maybe it is time to look for another weather site too...

Is Facebook going to be the Wal-Mart of the internet? The place to go for anything......I took down my Facebook page last year when I realized how useless it is. I don't need to know what everybody did last night, had for dinner, or what your kids did in school. But I guess nobody really needs to know what we say here either. We live in an incredibly superfluous society.

WITN toll us why there is no comment section for the news about a gang member shooting at another gang member and shooting his aunt. You afraid of the comments.

I think it should be limited to Facebook accounts, verified people. Registration isn't censorship. Disallowing anonymity is not censorship. It's like my father always said, if you can't put your real name on it, you don't need to be saying it (because obviously you don't believe it strongly enough to do so). But I think you will be surprised. I see on WITN's Facebook page people using what appears to be their real name, and pictures of their children as their profile picture, posting hateful, bigoted, and/or racist comments. WITN, I think you should take it a step farther, and tie it to Facebook like 9gag (a humor site) does. Your articles get posted on Facebook, and comments on Facebook appear on the site, and vice versa. Then you can ignore "joke" accounts or particularly abusive ones. I'm not in favor of censorship at all. If you can get on WITN, you can probably get on Facebook. Get a USB flash drive, head to, get Portable Firefox (or Chrome, or Opera, if you prefer one of those browsers) and maybe some other portable apps that interest you, and log on from the library, work, school, whatever. Don't use somebody else's browser, use your own and take it with you.
