"All My Children" And "One Life To Live" Cancelled

ABC is canceling the soap operas "All My Children" and "One Life to Live," both programs that have been on the network's daytime lineup for more than 40 years.

The move leaves "General Hospital" as ABC's only daytime drama.

ABC's daytime department president Brian Frons said Thursday that "viewers are looking for different types of programming these days."

Soap operas have slowly been fading as a TV force, with many of the women who made up the target audience now in the work force. ABC will air two new shows, one about food and the other about lifestyle transformations.

ABC did not immediately say when the soap operas would go off the air.

I will miss All My Children I've been watching it since I was about 7 with my mom. There are other shows that suck like housewives and other crappy shows, who wants to watch cooking. Get a cook book, surf da net for recipes do not take the stories.

How many people are truly addicted to this form of entertainment? their entire day revolves around being able to watch this sewage being broadcast into their homes. having no problem watching men and women repeatedly ignore their marital vows and going from 1 illicit relationship to another. They watch shows like this and are ok with it.. however, they have a problem with lifestyles like this in reality. how pathetic

I think it is a shame and disgrace to take off the two top daytime shows. For whoever said its part because of weman going to work that aint no reason. That is what thay make dvr for. I am a working woman who has been watching these shows ever since i was 5 yrs old, i am 44 years old. I feel that it is a bad decision to do so. If they take them off then i will no longer watch abc. If they pull records of the neilsons tv ratings i gaurentee they will probally be in the top five. I hope you think hard and long about this decision before doing it. I will be very dissapointed when this happens as well as many more. We dont want more food shows we want what we grew up on.

I am delighted to hear it! Soaps are nothing more than "soft porn". What else do you call it when everyone in the town is sleeping with everyone else! Not to mention, murder, devil worship etc. This is what our children are watching and believing as the way our lives are supposed to lived. No wonder the world is so "messed up". Get a (real) life!!
