Wilson Woman Sues Over 'Monster-in-Law' Script

A North Carolina woman has sued Jennifer Lopez, Jane Fonda and others associated with the making of the 2005 movie "Monster-in-Law," saying the movie was similar to a script she wrote years earlier.

The News & Observer of Raleigh reported Thursday that Sheri Gilbert of Wilson filed the copyright lawsuit in U.S. District Court in Raleigh. She and her husband, Willie Gilbert Jr., say they are owed some of the almost $155 million the movie made worldwide.

Sheri Gilbert says the movie is similar to a script she wrote in 1998 that was based in part on her own mother-in-law problems.

An attorney representing Warner Bros. and 33 other defendants said the "mother-in-law" character is not unusual and has asked that the lawsuit be dismissed.

Gilbert said the similarities are more than coincidence.

I think that idiots are people that make judgements without all of the facts. It would not be the first time that this has happened. The article does not say that she is suing over an in-law story, the movie company is saying this as a part of their defense. She is saying that the "similarites are more than a coincidence." Who are we to say anything differently?

Maybe she did not see the movie, until it was on TV? Maybe, the news is just finding out about it, and maybe hollywood should stop thinking that they can steal from people from small towns.

Most Monster-In-Law stories are the same. These people are ridiculous to think they are owed any type of money. What did they do drive down and here and steal her script... i don't think so. Some people will do anything to get out of making a honest living. Get a life!!!!

Do I smell GREED? Do I smell a couple of dollar chasers with sticky fingers? Do I smell a little insensitivity? Huuuummmm! It souonds like to me they are jealous of the hollywood stars and will stay that way until they win that lawsuit, because I have a feeling that they will end up getting about 70-90 million dollars. That is just the way it turns out. I think they were just waiting to see how much they could get out of this. That's all.
