Motorcyle Rally Coming To New Bern From SC

A motorcycle rally that has become controversial on South Carolina's Grand Strand is moving to North Carolina.

The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reported Monday that the Carolina Harley-Davidson Dealers Association is moving its May motorcycle rally to New Bern, N.C.

The association said New Bern Mayor T.A. Bayliss III has welcomed the rally that can be held at the New Bern Fairgrounds on May 15-16.

That's shorter than the rally that has attracted 500,000 people to Myrtle Beach.

Myrtle Beach officials have passed ordinances to restrict the rallies. The city acted after a Coastal Carolina University student was shot and killed last year during one of the rallies in a dispute over a parking space.

Mark Cox with The Carolina Harley-Davidson Dealers Association says New Bern offers a rally without restrictions.

At leasst in New Bern, you have a lot of really nice town to get on your bike and ride. In Myrtle Beach, it was stop lights and heavy traffic every where you go. Who needs it. IT was not fun to travel anywhere. I welcome the change to a nice small coastal town that you can ride. Myrtle Beach rally was a poor choice anyway and it was too spread out. We can make our fun anywhere. Thanks, New Bern

You know it has always been a problem with some people getting involved that have no business and/or knowledge. I have a bike but never been to the rally - I will be there and I am looking forward to it. Riding the roads with a smile. Get a room on the water and have a blast. Hope to see ya there.

Attention all Bike Week Attendees: Go to MB Bike Week. Do not spend any money in MB. Repeat. Do not spend any money in MB. Spend in North Myrtle, Murrells Inlet, etc. Show MB that they screwed up.

I think it important to remember that many of the Bikers are VETERANS, who have fought for your freedoms.

All good things come to an end and New bern is going to be a great spot for the rally in 2009. New bern is not Myrtle Beach and is not trying to be but the New Bern bike week will be a welcome change for many people. A large four day event with bands, bber tent m hot body contest and bike show is already in the work just a few miles from the fairgrounds. Yes, it is going to be a blast for all bikers and we welcome them. We want everyone to know that this off site event is going to be a destination for all bikers to come and have a beer with fresh carolina bbq and party with the band and the Bud girls. New Bern is going to do it right so bring it own.

For a great biker bar in Greenville Check out Hobos Tasvern in Simpson. Great bar, the owners donate a lot of profits to the Disabled Veterans for medical care. They had the Rebel Son band play there last week, Awesome show! I bet some of you people complaining about bikers have never done any thing to help your fellow citizen out.

The sponsor of this new motorcycle rally coming to nc makes it sound as if they don't want black people to attend. And they act like black people are the only one who do crime. Just for the record we do have honest law abiding black citizens that attend the bike fest in sc

My cousin (in his 30's) rides a Harley, has long hair, is a bit intimadating looking if you don't know him. But ya know what? He went to college, has a great job, never been in any trouble, and took exceptional care of our grandmother. There are lots of non-motorcyclists you cannot say those things about. I could see concern if they said the Hells Angels were coming, but these are the dealers.
