Most Searched Word On The Internet In 2008

A pop star and a politician were the most searched people on the internet in 2008.

Britney Spears and President-elect Barack Obama topped the list of the ten most searched words in 2008 according to both google and yahoo.

Also on the list, world wrestling entertainment, Sarah Palin and Beijing 2008.

Experts say it shows Americans are increasingly interested in both frivolous and serious topics.

Google is pretty inefficient for looking up all of those. For Beijing 2008, Wikipedia would probably be the best place to get up-to-the-minute information, if not a more specialized site like ESPN or whatever. For the people, Wikipedia would also be a good bet. Alternatively, go to and search for the name. News results are going to be better than all web results. would be the best place for the wrestling stuff, assuming you're looking for pay-per-view results, and Smackdown results, since they pulled it off cable/satellite (who has MyNetworkTV? not me). Wikipedia is the best place for information on individual performers as it would cover their personal lives and time in non-WWE promotions, stuff would not post. This tech expert says it's ironic that Google is so much more powerful than most know and yet gets used for what amounts to the wrong reasons.

I mostly looked up recipes and how to video's. Never looked up anything mentioned above.

I must admit that I too looked at the Brits net more than Obamas. You could see Obama 24/7 on CNN and other news stations.

I thought it would be Artie Lange. Who is Britney Spears?
