ECU Biologist To Appear On Colbert

How will faux-conservative talk show host Stephen Colbert take this news? A trapdoor spider species found in California will carry his name.

Viewers of the Comedy Central show "The Colbert Report" will
find out Aug. 6 when East Carolina University biologist Jason Bond
appears as a guest.

Bond selected the new species to carry the name "Aptostichus
(ap-TAS'-tih-kus) stephencolberti." Because Colbert doesn't
pronounce the "t" in his last name, it will be silent in the
spider's name as well.

Bond discovered the new species in 2007 in coastal California.

Colbert demanded that a spider species carry his name after
learning that Bond named a spider for rocker Neil Young. Bond spoke
with Colbert via phone on the June 24th show, but he will appear in
person for the first time.
