Extra info (why): The first Down East Talent Search was such a great success; the Music Academy has decided to do it again and expand it to include younger singers. There will be a Senior division (14 years and older), and a Junior division (13 and under). The semi-finals for both divisions will be held at the Music Academy on September 6-7. The finals for the Junior division will be Thursday September 13th, and the finals for the Senior division will be Friday, Sept. 14. Senior Division singers are encouraged to compete for prizes of $750 for first; $500 for second; and $250 for third. Our Junior division prizes are $100 savings bond and $50 cash for first; $50 savings bond and $50 cash for second; and $50 savings bond for third. All musical styles are welcome including country, disco, R&B, contemporary Christian, gospel, classical, pop and rock. A $25 registration fee must be received with the entry form to compete in the semi finals.

Where: Hunter's Pointe, a sporting clays range on U.S. 17, just north of Washington
Extra info (why): This event in the past 11 years has raised more than $600,000 for the regional children's hospital in Greenville. more than 550 shooters, mostly adults, are expected to attend. The event is held under the auspices of Log A Load For Kids, an initiative started by the timber industry to help the Children's Miracle Network. Funds from Log A Load are now the third largest contributor to the hospital.
