CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) -- The head of the search committee for a new chancellor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill says it won't be easy to find someone to fill the post, which he described as a challenging job.
Wade Hargrove is chair of the school's board of trustees and will lead the 21-member search committee. During a break in Thursday's board meeting, Hargrove said although mistakes were made, outgoing Chancellor Holden Thorp's performance has exceeded expectations.
He says the new chancellor must share the school's core values, adding others at the school have violated those values recently.
Thorp said earlier this month that he would resign, effective in June. He's dealt with two years of scandals involving academics, athletics and finances.
Hargrove says he hopes a new chancellor will be on the job by July 1, 2013.
