A Pitt County school bus driver was cited by state troopers after an accident with a tractor trailer this afternoon.
The accident happened at the intersection of Hanrahan Road and Stokestown-St. Johns Road, outside of Grifton.
Troopers say there were 24 children on the bus, and no one was hurt. They say the driver, Lillian Carmon, was cited for failure to yield after she pulled out onto Stokestown-St. Johns and hit the back end of an empty grain truck that had just passed through the intersection.
The children were from Grifton Elementary and Grifton Middle schools and were put on a replacement bus for the ride home.
A Pitt County Schools spokeswoman says Carmon immediately had to take a drug test because of the wreck, and will be placed on administrative leave while the school system investigates.
