Damage just found from last week's tornado has forced the closure of the library at Carteret Community College.
Inspections found what may be structural damage to the Michael J. Smith Library Building. It came following an inspection of walls and windows on the south side of the building Wednesday afternoon by college personnel, a structural engineer, and Morehead City's chief building inspector.
In additional to the library, the building also houses the college's fine arts program, information technology section, and offices for the Crystal Coast Civic Center.
"We anticipate that there will be a more clear assessment of damages and possible remedies by as early as Saturday or as late as mid-week next week," said college president Dr. Kerry Youngblood.
Library staff will be working out of other spaces on campus, while students who need to take care of library fees can go to the business office in the McGee building.
Before this discovery, the college said there was $2.5 million in damage from the tornado on their campus.
