Byrd writes: "What I love most about teaching is taking on the challenge of teaching my course content to students with such diverse backgrounds and styles of learning. I make every effort to get to know some of the likes and dislikes of each of my students. I then incorporate several different ways of accomplishing tasks, assignments and projects for my classes that will allow these likes and dislikes to be addressed. It takes a lot of extra time planning my lessons each week, but the results are remarkable. When I see the smiles and comfort level exuded amongst students in my classroom each and every day and the excellent final post assessment scores, the extra time is well worth it."
Byrd received two nominations. One of them stated Ms. Byrd "is an excellent teacher with lots of energy, patience, and compassion. She teaches all levels of students at the same time and does it well. She does step by step instructions with her classes and takes extra time to help out the students that move at a slower pace while encouraging the faster paced students as well. The students LOVE her and have fun while they learn. Ms. Byrd is also a wonderful role model not only for her teaching but because she is very active in her church , very active with her family."
