NEW INFO: Student Struck And Killed Near Wake County Bus Stop

A student who was killed this morning near a school bus stop in Wake County has been identified.

The Highway Patrol says 14-year-old Maria Jimenez of Garner was killed near her home as she was trying to cross Highway 50.

1st Sgt. Jeff Gordon says the 14-year-old girl and her 16-year-old brother were heading to a bus stop shortly after 6:30 a.m. He says the amber lights were flashing, but the bus was not at a full stop so its red lights were not on.

The driver of the oncoming car has been identified as Teri Guttery of Willow Springs.

Troopers say once they complete their investigation, they will consult with the Wake County District Attorney's office to see if charges are warranted in the case.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol says a student was struck and killed at a school bus stop near Garner this morning.

1st Sgt. Jeff Gordon says the 14-year-old girl and her 16-year-old brother were heading to a bus stop on Highway 50 shortly after 6:30 a.m. He says the amber lights were flashing, but the bus was not at a full stop so its red lights were not on.

The girl died at the scene.

The bus was headed to Garner High School and another bus was called to the scene to take students on the bus to school.

Gordon says charges are not likely because the right lights on the bus were not on. He said speed was not a factor in the accident.
