Deputies are investigation allegations that a 13-year-old was sexually assaulted on a Pitt County school bus.
The 8th grader attends G.R. Whitfield Elementary School in Grimesland and her grandmother says the assault took place six days ago.
The Pitt County Sheriff's Office says they are investigating. Deputies tell us two boys are accused of inappropriately touching the girl.
The grandmother says one of the boys confronted the child on Tuesday, so the 8th grader stayed away from school today.
No charges have been filed, but the school system says they have taken action. "The school has investigated the incident, it has been dealt with according to the student code of conduct, with the appropriate discipline being given, and then it was referred to law enforcement," Dr. Pokie Noland told WITN.
The grandmother says she wants the school system to add cameras and monitors on the buses. She does not blame the bus driver who she says should be focusing on the road, but thinks another adult should be on the bus.
