School Goofed; Congressmen Blame Federal Overreach

North Carolina school officials say a teacher's mistake launched the tale of a 4-year-old told to eat a school lunch in place of the meal her family packed for her.

Hoke County Schools Assistant Superintendent Bob Barnes said Thursday the girl in an elementary school's pre-kindergarten program should have been handed a carton of milk to round out the turkey-and-cheese sandwich and banana she brought from home. Instead, the teacher erred by telling the tyke to get a cafeteria lunch.

Two North Carolina lawmakers asked the Obama administration to investigate what they called government meddling.

A spokesman for Republican Rep. Renee Ellmers says she and Democratic U.S. Rep. Larry Kissell were outraged by reports on web sites and talk shows of requiring a meal of chicken nuggets.

This is just another example of a government takeover into our lives from the Obummer administration. This B.S. is nothing more than what is coming down the pipe from Michelle Obummer pushing for healthier school lunches while she sits at the rib shack pigging out on a rack of ribs. We are all going to see alot more of this if Obummer gets a second term. This is what he and the democratic party wants, a total takeover of our lives. They think that they can make better decisions for us rather than we decide for ourselves.

This is sheer, unadulterated hyperbole. I will not vote for Obama, I belong to the GOP, but this type of extreme response is EXACTLY why we are stuck with the 3 sorry candidates that are left in the presidential pool. Romney- a moderate that is now a phony acting like he is some "severe" (LOL!) conservative; flip-flop. He'll never be able to get back to the political middle that will be necessary to beat Obama. Then we have 2 guys that are truly unelectable- Gingrich and Santorum. Obama's team is praying either of them win. Check out Santorum's last election result in Pa... he lost HUGE and will not even carry his own state where he is HATED. Thanks alot.

This has to be one of the stupidest stories I have ever seen to have so many comments. I could see an issue if the child was denied food, but she was still given an opportunity to eat lunch. This is just dumb and obviousyly folks have too much times on their hands!

You are obviously passive to government intervention in our children's lives, via (initially) their food at schools. The child brought a healthy lunch, and was thwarted by some 'official' to eat the cheapo school lunch. I'd be upset too, if I were that parent!!

Turkey and cheese on wheat, banana, juice vs. mystery meat (chicken nuggets, or that gray stuff that just laid there). so we have re-re-reprocessed (possibly) chicken breaded with god only knows what, deep fried, servered with veggies whose color doesn't match what they are suppose to be (carrots that are red or purple instead of orange). yeah good choice there inspectors (food police). barslow, please quit crowing the party line, even you should have enough smarts to know what that little girl had in her bag was better then the school lunch. We are lucky that lavon hasn't chimed in with more obuma love notes.

Does this story make you mad? Are you outraged? Tired of government making rules that intrude on your life. Humph. This isn't an Obama thing or a Republican thing. It's a government thing. Now, maybe you should pay attention to Ron Paul's presidential campaign and his libertarian stance on the issues. No, he isn't really a Republican, but you can't get noticed any other way. And he's not the only closet libertarian. Look Closer.

The smart ones already have their kids in private school. The rest are not a concern. Let's move on.

I spend my hard earn money on educating my kids. I do not have nice cars or boats or motorcycles. I do have children that are well educated with a bright future. I saw the handwriting on the wall years ago. I feel sorry for the rest of you with kids rotting in the public school system

I guess this is just another failure of the Obama admin; LA Times; For many students, L.A. Unified's trailblazing introduction of healthful school lunches has been a flop. Earlier this year, the district got rid of chocolate and strawberry milk, chicken nuggets, corn dogs, nachos and other food high in fat, sugar and sodium. Instead, district chefs concocted such healthful alternatives as vegetarian curries and tamales, quinoa salads and pad Thai noodles. There's just one problem: Many of the meals are being rejected en masse. Participation in the school lunch program has dropped by thousands of students. Principals report massive waste, with unopened milk cartons and uneaten entrees being thrown away. Students are ditching lunch, and some say they're suffering from headaches, stomach pains and even anemia. At many campuses, an underground market for chips, candy, fast-food burgers and other taboo fare is thriving.

No one is to blame here but the generations of Americans who have turned a once great nation into a platform for the corrupt and lazy to get away with living and conductiong themselves like the world owes them something. Millions of Americans have either not taken advantage of or abused the fact that they were born in a place where you can succeed. Its not about nutrition, allergies, government intrusion or even Obama or his wife. It is about Americans losing the ideas, determination and respect for others that formed this county. As the population grows this fundamental concept will become even more distorted and larger issues will evolve. Just like parents with their children, government needs to be proactive instead of reactive to all the problems that this country faces. Sadly, in my 35 years, I have not seen this to be true or even close to a possibility.
