School leaders from across the state are heading to the Colonial Capital on Thursday to discuss how to maintain and improve on school safety.
The Governor's Task Force on Safer Schools will meet all day Thursday in New Bern.
Special committees will discuss a range of topics including mental health and special needs students, school climate and discipline, and physical security and emergency preparedness.
Representatives from the Governor's office, Department of Justice, and Department of Public Instruction will all be on hand.
Later in the afternoon, leaders and community representatives will go behind closed doors to go over a confidential committee report and continue the discussion of safety in schools.
The meetings are set to run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday.
