REPORT: Student Brought Knives To School For Protection

A sixth grader told school officials he brought two knives to school because he was scared of dogs in his neighborhood.

That Pactolus Elementary School student is now facing juvenile charges as well as school discipline.

Authorities say a student told the principal she thought she saw a knife in the child's book bag Friday morning. After a search they found two steak knives.

Pitt County Schools spokeswoman Heather Mayo says after talking to the student they do not believe he intended any harm at school.

The Pitt County Sheriff's Office filed a juvenile petition charging the boy with misdemeanor bringing a weapon onto school grounds.
