OFFICIALS: Pellet Gun, Knives Found In Student's Car Trunk

Pitt County School officials tell WITN they found a pellet gun and two knives in the trunk of a student's car Friday at South Central High School.

Spokeswoman Heather Mayo said officials received a tip around 11:45. Officials identified the vehicle, then got the student and conducted a search.

Pitt County authorities say a 17-year-old senior was charged with two misdemeanor charges of bringing a weapon on educational property.

They say the student said he had no intent to harm anyone, that he bought the pellet gun Thursday and left it in his car along with two hunting knives.

The student was released on a $1,000 secured bond.

Mayo reports the student is being disciplined based on the school code as well as charges being filed with law enforcement.

The law says no guns and no knives, despite how school used to be in the 1970s. If you disagree with the law, then change the law.

The state law says you can't speed. I bet it don't stop you.

Actually, I've never had a speeding ticket. I pretty much don't speed. I obey the law in its entirety.

Actually you have been speeding, and I'm sure you have broking the law some time in your life. Everyone has. There are two kinds of people in this world. The ones that got busted and the ones that don't.

Within the past two weeks in Pitt County there have been two murders by people utilizing knives. In todays world, there should be zero tolorance for people carrying weapons onto school property.

Yep, because zero tolerance has worked sooo well in other areas where it has been implemented.

one of the knives was a little swiss army type knife, he used the scissors and screwdriver. the other was in a little side pocket in his book bag that he forgot was in there from the summer, hmmm. I think boy scouts teaches you how to use them to fish and hunt. We are in eastern nc.

Somebody should call the FBI. Plenty of students have gotten kicked out of school for a lot less. To the previous people who commented " the gun was the only item found in the trunk, the knives were found on him."

"the gun was the only item found in the trunk, the knives were found on him." Please tell us where you found this information. The heading of the article states, "OFFICIALS: Pellet Gun, Knives Found In Student's Car Trunk" The very first sentence states, " they found a pellet gun and two knives in the trunk of a student's car". Midway into the article, it states, "he bought the pellet gun Thursday and left it in his car along with two hunting knives". I am pretty sure they mean the knives were found IN THE TRUNK of his car, not ON him.

Great... Let's ruin this kid's future because of a stupid post-Columbine over-reaction. If he had them in the building, sure. But locked in his car, is his business alone - no that of some CYA-seeking school administrator.
