A Nash County high school has a new principal after officials replaced the previous one in the wake of an attack at the school.
The Rocky Mount Telegram reported that Mark Cockrell is the new principal at Southern Nash High School, replacing Connie Bobbitt. Bobbitt had been principal since July 2010. Cockrell was principal at a middle school.
Superintendent Anthony Jackson says the change will help the school regroup.
A 16-year-old girl was treated for injuries March 20 after she was attacked by a 15-year-old student with a scalpel.
That 15-year-old has been charged with attempted first degree murder.
A week before the scalpel attack, deputies had gone to Southern Nash after a report of a fight. When deputies arrived at the school, they discovered a 17-year-old was trying to harm himself with a piece of glass.
