NC College Savers' Information Disclosed

RALEIGH (AP) - A North Carolina agency says those taking part in the state's college savings plan may have had some of their information publicly disclosed briefly.

The State Education Assistance Authority said it learned Tuesday night that some information was inadvertently disclosed by a third-party vendor.

Officials with the NC 529 Plan said the vendor's computer server accidentally allowed public access to the names, addresses, ages and beneficiary names of those in the plan.

The authority says no Social Security numbers, financial information, dates of birth or passwords were disclosed.

The problem was corrected in about two hours.

Officials do not think the release was the result of a malicious act.

Those who were affected are being notified.
