The Lenoir County School System has hired an interim superintendent after its former leader resigned last week.
Stephen Mazingo was sworn in as the school system's temporary superintendent Tuesday, according to the Kinston Free Press. The paper reports that Mazingo is under a six-month contract that will pay him $72,000.
Mazingo previously served as superintendent for Greene County Schools and as headmaster of Arendell Parrott Academy.
Lenoir County's former superintendent, Terry Cline, resigned last Thursday. Cline had been with the school system for seven years. The school board agreed to a $159,000 buyout for the two years remaining on his contract.
