Today begins a new chapter in the life of a local school hit hard by Hurricane Irene. After the storm in August, there was up to a foot-and-a-half of water in some places on the bottom floor of Pamlico County Middle School in Bayboro. It's been closed ever since, until Monday.
A ribbon-cutting took place Monday morning for the re-opening of Pamlico County Middle School. In the words of one school official, everyone is excited to get back in their school and finish out the year "at home."
Officials say the school is able to reopen after "months of hard work from school personnel, hired contractors and volunteers."
