An Eastern Carolina high school is mourning the loss of an assistant football coach who suddenly died.
Bertie High School says Teierce Ruffin died last night. He was 38-years-old.
Ruffin, who friends say was a colon cancer survivor, was a former teacher at the high school. He stopped teaching after going on disability two years ago but remained an assistant coach with the football program.
Just last Friday night Ruffin was the keynote speaker at the annual Bertie High School Athletic Banquet.
