A high school coach in Wilmington is under arrest, accused of assaulting several students.
Joseph Brown, Jr. turned himself in late Wednesday. The assistant coach at Hoggard High School is charged with five counts of simple assault and one county of assault with a deadly weapon.
Arrest warrants say the assaults took place last Thursday. Brown is accused of striking the students with a closed fist on their forehead, right arm and head, along with grabbing one student's throat. On the assault with a deadly weapon charge, the coach is accused of using a yard-long square wooden stick to strike a wooden table near a student, putting them in fear.
Brown was released on a $60,000 bond. He was suspended with pay last week by the school system.
