A former high school principal and current community college trustee has died. "Red" Gainey passed away Monday in Chapel Hill.
Gainey was a member of the Craven Community College Board of Trustees since 2002 and for 30 years was principal at Havelock High School. Craven Community President Catherine Chew says Gainey was a valuable college trustee and was one of their most active and engaged supporters.
Prior to Havelock, Gainey was principal at Farmlife High School in Vanceboro. He began his educational career in 1960 in Harnett County.
