Former North Carolina Governor Announces Digital Learning Institute

After a year away from public life, former North Carolina Governor Beverly Perdue is returning to the education policy arena.

Purdue, along with former Wyoming Governor Jim Geringer, held a news conference Wednesday at N.C. State in Raleigh.

At the news conference, Perdue announced the start of an initiative to expand the use of electronic technology to improve the learning process. The organization is called DigiLearn, or the Digital Learning Institute.

Perdue was elected North Carolina's first female Governor in 2008 but chose not to run for re-election. Since leaving office in January 2013, the Craven County democrat has spent time on the campuses of Harvard and Duke Universities.
